Due to their emotional fights in their primetime show, MariMar , Marian Rivera and Katrina Halili recently have been rumored to be foes even when the camera stops rolling.

Marian, however, denies such allegations and insists that she has a good working relationship with Katrina. “Mabait si Katrina, lagi siyang namimigay ng mga chocolates. Wala po kaming problemang dalawa ni Kat. Doon lang po sa MariMar meron, kasi gusto niyang makuha sa ’kin si Sergio” she explains to StarTalk.

In the show, Katrina plays Angelika, Sergio’s ( Dingdong Dantes ) scheming ex-girlfriend.

When asked about the supposed real-life rivalry between Marian and Dingdong’s girlfriend, Karylle , Marian quickly comments, “Trabaho lang. MariMar lang at Sergio.”

The Philippine’s MariMar shares that she is getting to know Dingdong better as shooting continues. “Wala na talagang ilangan. Nagsasabihan kami ng sekrerto at minsan, mga problema. ‘Yun ‘yung signs na komportable kami sa isa’t isa,” she says.

Meanwhile, rumors still have it that StarStruck 1 Male Ultimate Survivor Mark Herras is planning to court Marian again. However, she maintains that “sabi ko sa kanya, mas mabuti po siguro kung magiging magkaibigan na lang kami.”

Marian also admits that she had more suitors as her popularity increased. “Hindi ko naman sinasabi na ‘Maghintay ka, maghintay ka.’ Bago pa lang sila manligaw, sinasabi ko na ‘I-e-entertain ko kayo pero hindi ko masu-sure na sasagutin kita. Kung gusto mo akong makilala, gusto mo akong maging kaibigan, okay para sa ’kin yun. Basta ang priority ko ngayon, trabaho,’” she stresses.

The actress asserts that her most persistent suitor is a non-showbiz guy, and continues to deny any relationship between her and Billy Crawford.

Philippine drama airing on GMA Network starring Marian Rivera, in the title role,[1] and Dingdong Dantes. It is a remake of the Mexican telenovela with the same title starring Thalia which was aired in 1994. It started on August 13, 2007 as part of GMA Network weeknights primetime presentation, under the direction of movie directors Joyce E. Bernal and Mac Alejandre. On this remake, much liberty had been taken to provide back story to the characters, tweaking and twisting some plot elements to avoid it being too predictable, and adapting it to Philippine setting.

1994 TV series

Marimar was a Mexican TV telenovela that was first aired in 1994 on Televisa with singer-actress Thalía in the title role.

Popularity in the Philippines

The original Mexican telenovela was massive hit in the Philippines with ratings peaking on 46.5%, when it first aired on Radio Philippines Network (RPN) in 1996. The series' success paved way to another Thalía telenovela Rosalinda which has the highest rating show ever recorded in the Philippine TV with a peak of 57.8% which aired on ABS-CBN. In April 2002, the original Marimar was re-aired on GMA as part of the Telebabad primetime block but was moved to a morning timeslot in June 2002. Maria la del Barrio also followed and re-aired on the same network.

2007 TV series
Casting Marimar

GMA VP Wilma Galvante reveals it took some time to get the story rights of "Marimar" from Televisa, the owner of story rights of the Mexican Telenovela. Angel Locsin was the first choice to play the title role but she declined. The contract required that the Pinoy version be made before 2007 is over which prompted the network to give an auidition for the highly profiled role. GMA female artists such as Nadine Samonte, Katrina Halili, Jennylyn Mercado, Marian Rivera, Valerie Concepcion, Bianca King, Rhian Ramos, Glaiza de Castro, Jewel Mische and Karylle have all gone to the audition.

The role eventually went to Marian Rivera, who had 80% chance of winning the role,[2] beating her closest rival for the role Jennylyn Mercado.

Who would forget Marimar? the lead role in the Mexican telenovela of the same name which changed the landscape of Philippine TV in the ‘90s. Marimar, an innocent girl who lives on the beach with her elderly grandparents. They are very poor, and sometimes, Marimar has to steal to keep food on the table. One day she finds herself in need and she goes to the Hacienda Santibanez to steal some vegetables and eggs for her family.

Now, Marian Rivera will play the title role of the remake, with Dingdong Dantes as Sergio in the Philippine drama airing on GMA Network.
